چکیده

1. Introduction The zero-range process (ZRP) [1] is a simple lattice-based model for driven diffusive systems. For certain choices of parameters, the model exhibits a condensation transition (analogous to Bose-Einstein condensation) where a macroscopic proportion of particles accumulate on a single site [2]. Condensation is well-known in colloidal and granular systems [3] and also occurs in a variety of other contexts [4], including socio-economics, biology, and networks. Furthermore, the ZRP can be mapped to well-studied exclusion processes which describe the single-file diffusion of interacting particles. Condensation in the ZRP corresponds to phase separation in the exclusion process [5].

Discontinuous condensation transition and nonequivalence of ensembles in a zero-range process

We study a zero-range process where the jump rates do not only depend on the local particle configuration, but also on the size of the system. Rigorous results on the equivalence of ensembles are presented, characterizing the occurrence of a condensation transition. In contrast to previous results, the phase transition is discontinuous and the system exhibits ergodicity breaking and metastable ...

Reply to a Comment on ”the Role of Dimensionality in the Stability of a Confined Condensed Bose Gas”

As pointed out by the authors of the comment quant-ph/9712046, in our paper quant-ph/9712030 we studied in detail the metastability of a Bose– Einstein Condensate (BEC) confined in an harmonic trap with zero–range interaction. As well known, the BEC with attractive zero–range interaction is not stable but can be metastable. In our paper we analyzed the role of dimensionality for the metastabili...

Metastability Analysis of Synchronizer

AbstractThe multiple clock domain systems communicate with each other causes data loss. This data loss is due to mismatch in frequencies. For proper communication the frequencies must be synchronized. Hence synchronizer is used for data synchronization process with non-zero probability of failure. The synchronizer is also having its parameters. It suffers from metastability as data changes in b...

Metastable Dynamics and Exponential Asymptotics in Multi-dimensional Domains

Certain singularly perturbed partial diierential equations exhibit a phenomenon known as dynamic metastability, whereby the solution evolves on an asymptotically exponentially long time interval as the singular perturbation parameter tends to zero. This article illustrates a technique to analyze metastable behavior for a range of problems in multi-dimensional domains. The problems considered in...

Metastability in zero-temperature dynamics: Statistics of attractors

The zero-temperature dynamics of simple models such as Ising ferromagnets provides, as an alternative to the mean-field situation, interesting examples of dynamical systems with many attractors (absorbing configurations, blocked configurations, zero-temperature metastable states). After a brief review of metastability in the mean-field ferromagnet and of the droplet picture, we focus our attent...
